The cottage itself would be enough to bring us back to the Sitia area again and again. It felt like our own little corner of paradise. Set among olive trees, it has a distant sea view and neatly kept palms. Palekastro, with its taverns and minimarkets, is a five minute drive away. The house was naturally airy thanks to the well placed windows, so we hardly needed the air conditioning. WiFi worked well, and the kitchen had everything we needed. The bathroom was roomy and the washing machine came in handy. Towels and bedding were changed every three days, and they even changed them on the sixth day though we were checking out the next day. That kind of service is rare. Check in was quick with the host’s clear instructions, and we really appreciated the welcome treats: raki, olive oil, honey, and delicious cookies. The towels were very clean, and when the host changed them, they also took our household rubbish, even though we were already handling it ourselves. There are plenty of bins along the main road and in the village. In the evenings, we were also given homemade eggs from the chickens nearby. We hadn’t expected the stay to exceed our hopes by so much.
