Villa Matina

Voula and her family were so friendly that we felt at home straight away. Our apartment was clean and had an amazing balcony view over the bay, though not all rooms have a view. There’s also a lovely garden where we could get out of the heat under the lemon trees. The accommodation is in a quiet part of Tourkopazaro, the old Town of Parga. Some great restaurants and bars are just a two minute walk away, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the seafront. It’s only a few minutes on foot to the town center in one direction and the large beach of Valtos in the other. Would highly recommend for families and couples.

The younger host was genuinely pleasant, and we appreciated being offered figs from the garden, but those were about the only bright spots. The kitchen was cramped and poorly equipped, which made cooking difficult. We also had an uncomfortable sense that the hosts were talking about us in the garden because of our politics and nationality. The extra €50 for air conditioning seemed excessive, especially with the older host keeping such close tabs on it, including checking whether we’d left the door ajar while it was running. That host was sarcastic and rude throughout, which really affected our stay at Vila Mathina Parga this August. On our last day, we were five minutes late checking out and got a knock telling us to leave. We were then refused use of the toilet and pointed toward an area with a water hose instead. It felt like a very unwelcoming end to the stay.

The owners are so friendly, and the place is close to both the center and Valtos beach. For me, this is the best accommodation in Parga. I’d highly recommend it to everyone.

There’s no parking, so finding a space up the hill depends on luck. That’s true across Parga, though. The property is well kept, the owner is very friendly, and our room was cleaned every day.
