Flegra Palace

We had a ground-floor room at the front of the hotel and expected road noise, but it was fine. The little garden area was lovely to sit in. The pool area was relaxing, with very comfortable sun loungers, though we preferred the beach club since we're more beach people. The room was cleaned daily, with fresh bedding and towels, and all the staff were friendly. The receptionists were always happy to order a taxi into the village. The bar staff were lovely too, especially the head barman and waitress, who made the best cocktails and Havana Club and Coke. I really enjoyed breakfast and had something different each day. Fabulous hotel and staff.

We had a quiet, pleasant stay, with no loud music or rowdy scenes. The staff were generous with suggestions for day trips, and we were lucky to meet the owners, who told us about Greek culture and customs. Always nice to learn something new. Our room, 515, was spotless and comfortable, with a sea view and sunrise. The surroundings always smelled lovely, and the pool was peaceful. It felt a bit chilly to me as a Scandinavian/Baltic adult, though the kids liked it. I was cold after swimming until the local cats curled up together like a furry blanket and warmed me inside and out 😍. Breakfast was decent, nothing fancy, but it was there every morning and tasted good. The pool bar staff were enthusiastic, generous with cocktails, and ready to help. It was one of the last hotels open for the season, but it was still a lovely stay.

The spa was amazing. We had a massage and enjoyed every minute, and we loved the beach club too. We only heard about the beach club from another guest, so it could use more advertising. We had a great time overall and would definitely return. The staff should be proud, the people were fantastic and the atmosphere was great. We’re planning to come back in October. We stayed for two weeks. Our room was lovely, and our cleaner did a brilliant job. The pool and gardens were beautifully clean, with someone always keeping things in order. All the staff were friendly and helpful, especially at reception. The bar staff were brilliant and spoke English very well. Breakfast had a few problems. There was only one toaster and one coffee machine, both by the entrance, so people crowded around and blocked the way in. The eggs, sausages and other hot food were cold, and there weren’t enough staff to refill the food. It did seem to get better as the stay went on.

The team at the hotel and restaurant were extremely friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had a great time. There’s a gym and spa on site, and if you have a late flight, you can book a place to shower while waiting for your pickup. The hotel is around a 15-minute walk from Pefkohori, or a 5 euro taxi ride. Hanioti is a 7 euro taxi ride away. Our airport transfer took 1 hour 10 minutes. Its own beach club is a 3-minute walk away. Sunbeds are free if you book through reception first, but you need to spend 20 euro per person during the day, which is common at local beach clubs. Rooms have the usual things, including a TV, fridge, hair dryer, shower gel and conditioner. They’re cleaned daily, and towels are changed. Breakfast is good value and has options for different diets. There can be a queue for the single coffee machine, though there’s an urn beside it if you’re not particular about coffee. The pool area is laid out well, and in mid September there were plenty of sunbeds without anyone saving them at silly o’clock. Pool towels are available with a 5 euro deposit, and there’s always a lifeguard. One small issue was that the water left a green tinge on white swimsuits. The pool man came by daily, so hopefully that’s sorted quickly. The poolside bar and restaurant are well equipped and open from 10am to 1am every day. Prices are a little higher than at local bars. You can run a tab after allowing your credit card to be charged a 100 euro security deposit. Overall, we found the hotel very good value and would recommend it.
