Laguna Holiday Resort

The room was in a terrible state. We sometimes had dirty towels and bedding, the mattress was awful, and the bed squeaked so badly we slept poorly. The shower was dirty, with grime and mould all around it, a missing light, a hole in the wall, and grime around the mirror. Water sprayed onto the bathroom floor, the room was damp, and the fridge cupboard door was broken. We only had the room cleaned three times in seven days, nowhere near good enough for a supposed 4* hotel. Noise was another problem. Staff shouted across the corridor for long periods after midnight, and workers had music blasting at 7am. The cleaners were also very loud early in the morning, talking and banging equipment around. I have video evidence of the noise. When I raised it, I was told I should have complained at 2am about the staff member shouting. The manager said the shouting was acceptable, and that music at 7am was normal, despite the hotel's policy against loud noise between 10pm and 8am. He just argued back and said nothing was wrong. I showed him the videos, and he still said it was acceptable. We arrived after midnight and weren't offered food or a drink, though luckily there was water in the room. The food looked okay but was the same each day, served warm, oily, bland, and tasteless. We both got food poisoning. They claimed to have a different menu each night, but at best the meat came in a different sauce. The snack bar had only a few sandwiches and chicken wings, and sandwiches were served again later in the week if nobody had taken them. The water throughout the facilities and pool was salt water, which made our skin very dry and us feel unwell, a bad combination in the heat. Awful holiday, awful hotel, awful staff.

The rooms were immaculate, and we had no complaints about them. The cleaners were friendly, checked in every day, and made up the room if we'd forgotten to put the sign out. Staff were so friendly and knew a lot about local activities. As a vegetarian, I was a bit worried about the all-inclusive food, but I found something to eat most nights. They gave us a sheet on arrival with each evening's theme, which let me plan to eat elsewhere on nights such as fish and surf and turf. The hotel and holiday were amazing from start to finish. This was sold and booked as a disability and mobility-friendly holiday, but our stay with my partner and elderly mother was miserable and dangerous. On arrival we were put in a first-floor room away from the main hotel, reachable only by stairs and completely unsuitable for our mobility needs. The staff member didn't understand our concern and told us to wait until morning. After we pushed for a change the next day, and were told the unsuitable room was what we had booked, we were moved to another first-floor room. Its lift barely fit three people and couldn't take a wheelchair or mobility scooter. A ramp was promised but never appeared, so we had to lift the scooter over two steps to bring it inside for shelter from thunderstorms and to charge it. This caused all of us a lot of pain and worsened my partner's condition. The shower's fixed glass screen left an opening only about a foot wide, making it impossible to get in, and my partner struggled badly with steps in the dining area. The third bed had no bedding. When we asked, they gave us only sheets and no pillow, so my partner gave my mother her pillow and used rolled-up towels herself. Our supposed "garden view" looked out on a broken-down abandoned car, metal fencing, and broken wooden pallets. The room photos on the hotel's website are completely inaccurate. There was a constant sewage smell from the bathroom drain, whose cover had collapsed and left sharp edges. We were all covered in painful, bleeding bites from what seemed like a severe infestation of red biting ants. The food was cold, swimming in oil and water, and seemed to be leftovers from earlier days. We were told to heat it up ourselves in a microwave. We were served raw chicken. When we pointed out this major health hazard to the chef, he shrugged, and they kept serving it. My partner became ill from the food. Hundreds of flies were all over the dining room, sitting on the food, fruit, and fruit bar. Dining staff were unhelpful and sometimes intimidating when we raised issues. The pool couldn't be used because the filters and drains were broken, and there was no lifeguard. Pool paint stained our feet blue. The pool bar toilet was disgusting: flushing sent water shooting out behind it and all over the floor. The hotel had a terrible wasp problem, with visible active nests all over the building that were being ignored. The free shuttle to town that we were promised didn't exist. Since the hotel is in the middle of nowhere, taxis cost us an extra €500. Daily poolside and evening entertainment was promised but only happened on three days. This hotel is not fit for its purpose and is a public health and safety hazard. Don't book here, especially if you have a disability or mobility issues. See the attached photos for evidence.

We ended up at Laguna Resort after booking a terrible hotel elsewhere, and Mr Nikos greeted us right away. He could see how upset we were, reassured us, brought us water, showed us to the room, and explained the layout. I'm so grateful for his help. Our standard double room also had a bed and a large sofa for my son. It was beautiful and very clean, with a big balcony and facilities for making tea and coffee. When the weather turned cold, Billy at reception went out of his way to get us extra blankets, even while helping other guests. He was so kind to me and my son. The housekeeping team were impeccable. They kept the whole hotel spotless, cleaned our room thoroughly every day, and were always smiling and saying hello. The staff work incredibly hard, care about your stay, and go out of their way to sort things out. I can't name everyone, but the reception team are amazing. We were all-inclusive. The food was typical for that kind of hotel, though a lot of care went into how it was presented, and the waiters were phenomenal, always cleaning and smiling as they worked. The hotel is beautiful, and the location is unreal. The local shopkeeper Dennis and nearby restaurants treated us so well. Corfu was my first visit, and its people are some of the loveliest I've ever met. The meal times, themed dinner nights, and entertainment were explained to us. We can't wait to book again.
