Argo Hotel

The shower has no divider, so water ends up across the main toilet area. That was my only complaint. The lobby looks pretty sad, but my room was modern and newly renovated, even if it was tiny and bare. Staff helped with directions on foot. The hotel is handy for the ferry, within walking distance of Piraeus port. If you're not taking one, it's at the end of the Athens metro line, which I rode all the way from the airport.

My stay was on the side with the dining room, which I think was the Argo side. The branding was confusing, since Argo Hotel and Anita Hotel seemed to have joined up and now share one entrance. The room itself was clean and spacious, with fresh bedding and towels, plenty of pillows, and a comfortable bed. There was a long, narrow balcony, and the thick curtains were good for sleeping in. The elevator barely fits two people with luggage. There’s a dining area downstairs, breakfast was 7 euros, and the basement has luggage storage and a public washroom. I saw a 2 euro per night city tax, and the elevator sign needs updating. It’s about a five-minute walk, uphill in places, to Dimotiko Theatro metro station at the end of the blue airport line, and Piraeus center is also walkable. I’d have liked the service to feel a bit warmer.

The reception staff weren't welcoming or helpful. I paid about £40 for the night, so I wasn't expecting luxury, but the room was filthy, with mold and hair everywhere. I checked in after 9 pm, otherwise I would have left straight away. I couldn't bring myself to shower or even touch things in the room. Avoid staying here if you can.

The location worked well, close to the port, and the person at the desk was easy to talk to. I had no trouble during my stay. The room was good, and I’d like to come back.
