The big hill makes this spot hard to get to, so accessibility is the main downside. For a relaxing pool holiday, though, it’s perfect. Our room was lovely and had everything we needed, and from the balcony we had a great view. The bar staff were sweet, the food there was really good, and there was always a very cute dog wandering around!

Several charming restaurants, small supermarkets and bars are just a short walk down the steps, though we’d recommend renting a car to see more of the area. We felt very comfortable throughout our stay and would love to return. We were there with our child, and the caring owner made us feel genuinely welcome. Even though we were the only guests with a child at the time, a baby cot and high chair were provided. The whole property was beautifully looked after, with everything spotless thanks to the attentive cleaning staff. The modern apartments were tastefully furnished and comfortable. The kitchen had enough basics for simple meals; if you plan to cook often, bring a dish towel and cutting board. We had brought a sharp knife ourselves. Breakfast was ordered from a menu, simple but freshly made and delicious. And the sweetest little dog added a lovely homely touch :-)

We had a wonderful two weeks at Driades, and the owners were a very friendly and helpful family. Our studio was nicely decorated, clean, with comfortable beds and a really big TV. We were in the third block up from reception, 75 steps uphill, with a beautiful view. There’s a very nice swimming pool, and the hotel food was good and affordable. Tussis, the little dog, came over to say hello too! The big problem was our transfer dropping us at 2 am, 500 meters down the hill, with our luggage, even though they could have taken us to reception. We were furious. Get a private transfer, as they’ll take you to reception. Carrying bags up that hill is hard. Restaurants with good food, shops and Orion rent a car are about 10 minutes down the hill, but the climb back is the issue. Prices we noted: an Expresso coffee in Crete was 3 euros, a small 250 ml coke was 3 euros, orange juice 4 euros, and a big beer 4 euros. Food ranged from 6 to 20 euros and was worth it. Drinks were very expensive, beer was the cheapest, cocktails cost 10 to 15 euros, and petrol was 2 euros per liter. Many thanks to the owners!

That sea view was breathtaking, and we really enjoyed our week. The apartments are up a hill, so getting to the centre means a walk and then a climb back. The bus only runs in the centre below, though two small supermarkets and restaurants are a few meters further down. A rental car or scooter would make things easier. Our newly renovated room was small but laid out well, with a simple little kitchen. It was a bit difficult to cook there every day, but that was okay. The owners were friendly and helpful, and everyone spoke English. Bartender Billy was very friendly too. On Monday there was a BBQ with live music for €15 per person; the food was Greek style and the music was really good. Housekeeping came every few days with fresh towels and bed linen and cleaned the room. The €1.50 per room per day tourism fee was absolutely fine, and unlike last year we didn’t pay extra for air conditioning. PS: my lost giraff arrived in germany, thank you so much!
