Voukelari Rooms

Stelios Voukelari's guesthouse seems to be very popular. Some dance organizers, the tango people, also stay at Voukelari, since a dance scene has developed there over the years. For understandable business reasons, the organizers of “La Milonga,” Michael Domke/Ulrike Heese from Thedinghausen, and “Sutango,” Susanne Mühlhaus from Munich, try to keep a good relationship with host Stelios Voukelari. But looking past the “beautiful” side, I’ve seen some harsh, even coarse traits in Voukelari’s character. The dancers arrive in lovely summer weather, in a holiday mood, often as single women and dressed lightly. Stelios Voukelari apparently can’t resist making sexual offers to some of these attractive women, though he himself isn’t particularly “sexy.” This is known locally, not just among a few women who say they were harassed, but it often gets swept under the rug, especially by the dance organizers, for understandable reasons. If you’re a “tasty” dancer, be aware of this and prepare yourself. Women shouldn’t expect the dance organizers to protect or support them. The service Mr. Stelios, “The great Greek,” gives the lightly dressed ladies, day and night, is exemplary. For that, 5 stars!
