Hotel Alkyonis

It was very quiet at night, with just the sound of the waves and no music. There's a beach bar, a fish restaurant, a small shop and drinking water wells within about 100 metres, and the area has lots of greenery. The hotel sits on a hillside just above a lovely pebble beach with plenty of tree shade. It's a small-to-medium Greek family hotel. We had a small room on the third floor with a sea view, and it had everything we needed. The top, fourth floor has been renovated, while the lower floors could use some work. Breakfast is a standard buffet served on a terrace overlooking the sea; I would have liked it to feel more Greek. Good value for a quiet seaside break.

The beds were very uncomfortable, the toilet area tiny, and breakfast very poor. The photos gave us a completely different impression, so we checked out the next morning and went looking for somewhere better. This might suit people who can't afford comfort and are happy with what they get, but it wasn't for us.

The staff were genuinely lovely and friendly, so thank you to them, but the stay itself was awful. The room was extremely small, the balcony had mold, and the air conditioning didn't work. There was a bad smell throughout. The bathroom was the worst part: barely enough room to move, a broken handle that meant the door wouldn't shut, and a strong odor. Sitting on the toilet was practically impossible. The photos on Booking and Google were nowhere near what we found. I wouldn't come back, and I'd tell people to spend their money elsewhere.

The sea is very close, but getting into or out of it over the rocks is a real ordeal. It took about ten minutes, and then a wave would sometimes toss you onto the so-called beach like a whale. A small guy charged €7 per person to sit there, with 330 ml of water and coffee included. The toilet was miserable too. Save your money.
