Possidonion Hotel & Bungalows

The staff were very friendly, the food was good, and the hotel is right by a nice beach. But a road runs between them, so children need an adult with them when crossing back and forth. The rooms looked nothing like the pictures, and the bathrooms were especially bad. The shower cubicles are tiny and have no doors, so everything gets soaked. The fittings feel very cheap, and the toilet flush only worked sometimes, with my husband having to keep fixing it. The toiletries were cheap too, there was no hair conditioner, and you have to ask reception for a hairdryer. The wardrobe smelled damp. They claim this is a four-star hotel, but it felt more like two.

The beach and view outside were genuinely lovely, and the staff were friendly and did what they could. The food was fine, nothing special but good enough. Inside, though, the room felt worn out and long overdue for renovation. The bathroom was awful: the shower was tiny, its doors had come off completely, and the showerhead fell off with the slightest touch, leaving the whole floor soaked. Every day I had to open the toilet cistern to get it to flush, and the plastic toilet seat was the sort of quality you find in Christmas crackers. The location has plenty of potential, but if you want to come out of a shower feeling clean and comfortable, this place isn’t for you. Maybe it works if you only care about the beach and plan to spend no time in the room.

I came away feeling well rested and relaxed. The beach had free umbrellas, and there were lots of interesting people to chat with. Breakfast and the food served were great, and the service was excellent, with cheerful staff who took cleaning seriously. A real gem on the island.

What we saw in the photos was completely different from the reality. We slipped in the bathtub, which seemed to be coated with epoxy or some other slippery material, and hit our heads and hips. We were injured, and then got stuck on the island when all the ferries were cancelled, like many other tourists. I wouldn’t recommend the island or the hotels. There’s also a low-ceiling warning that lights up as you climb the stairs to the room. The beach has only three or four sets of sunbeds, which isn’t enough. The hotel is advertised with stars, but I don’t think it deserves even one.
