Sani Asterias

Our last stay at Asterias, in summer 2025, was a real letdown. We'd visited a couple of times before, including Porto Sani, and our 2024 stay at Asterias was superb. It feels like the resort has changed a lot, and it hurts to think our happy annual visits may be over. We'd asked months ahead for the same room as the year before, but that didn't happen. I was also upgraded to “Black tier” in the loyalty programme before this visit, which says I'm entitled to a room upgrade on arrival. I never received one. The bigger problem was how busy and built-up Asterias has become. Several new properties have gone up, most with private pools, but guests were using the main pool instead. We couldn't get a lounger on several days, which is unacceptable for what's presented as the most exclusive and expensive option at Sani. We used to choose Asterias for the better service and quieter feel, and that's gone. One staff member openly told me there had been a miscalculation about the resort's overdevelopment, based on the assumption that residents would use their own pools. There were problems in the room, too. The shower valve kept sticking, so at times it was impossible to adjust the temperature. We asked several times, but it was never properly fixed. The shower enclosure also leaked and flooded the bathroom repeatedly. After maintenance visits that didn't resolve it, they finally admitted it was a design fault that would be fixed in many rooms in the future. At this price, that isn't acceptable, and I don't understand why they weren't honest from the start. We were also served different wine vintages from the ones listed. If a bottle costs €250 or more, it shouldn't be a different vintage than advertised. And the kids “babe watch” beach service, where a couple of ladies set up sand play for children while parents watched from loungers, was unavailable for three of our ten days. It had been a nice service in previous years, and it was running at the other Sani resorts then. We'd made some lovely memories here, so these failures are hard to stomach. This last visit really let us down.

The spa was fantastic. Eva gave me the best massage I've ever had, and the whole experience felt first class. The reception has a gorgeous design and excellent staff, and the hotel team were amazing. The white sandy beaches are peaceful and beautiful, with a great choice of high-quality food at the restaurants. Sani Asterias hotel really is another level.

Lovely hotel and service. For the price, though, it should have its own gym. Having to use the gym at another property doesn't work.

The setting, views, staff and restaurants are among the best I've experienced, and the hotel itself is my favourite holiday stay. It has top-class management, and the people working there are some of the happiest and friendliest I've met. My husband and I keep coming back year after year and never get tired of it. The hotel and the resort around it feel unique, and I can't imagine a discerning traveller finding fault with the place.
