Despotiko Apt. Hotel & Suites

We’ve been coming here for years. I find the architecture stunning, and the pool area feels modern and calm.

The beach was the one good part for us: clear water, soft sand, and enough sunbeds for hotel guests. The food was awful, especially at dinner, where there was hardly anything to eat. Most of the restaurant chairs were broken, with holes in them, and the rooms felt old and unrenovated. The air conditioner upstairs didn’t work, so sleeping on the second floor wasn’t possible. I won’t return. Greece has plenty of more beautiful beaches with better places to stay.

We spent eight nights here as a family of four. It’s a restful place, though the food needs work, especially since many of the guests are from the Balkans and like to eat well. The best part was the beach: hotel guests get free sunbeds with plenty of space between them. The small beach bar had the basics, including ice cream. The pool area was excellent, with lots of tree shade and good service at the bar. We stayed in a renovated suite in the newer part, which was fine. Friends in the older section weren’t as happy. Breakfast was the same limited selection every morning, with very little variety. For lunch or dinner, you’re dependent on the hotel restaurant unless you drive to Toroni, the nearest place. The restaurant was pricey. Gyros and similar things weren’t too bad, but paying 9 euros for a bowl of watery soup with seasoning felt like robbery.

You get that perfect summer feeling here, with the beach right outside and beautiful sunsets. The food was quite good, too. The suites have a unique design, and it’s no surprise the place has won awards for its architecture. A great spot for relaxing.
