El Capitan

The captain and his wife were genuinely kind and helpful. We had booked two nights, but when my husband became ill, we needed to leave a night early. They promptly changed the reservation and refunded that night's payment. The captain even boiled lemon water for him, which we really appreciated. It's a very old-fashioned traditional guesthouse run by an older couple, with the lowest prices in the area. Don't expect luxury or a posh design, though the decor has plenty of character. The furniture is old, but the place was clean, despite some reviews saying otherwise, and it had what we needed: a working air conditioner, a refrigerator, and a hair dryer. There's also a fantastic view from the front balcony. A lovely choice if you're not looking for luxury.

We had a really enjoyable lunch here. The service took a while, but the staff were so pleasant that it didn't spoil things. The food was excellent: grilled octopus, moussaka that tasted properly homemade, and sea bream, or orada/tsaporo, were all amazing. The meal cost more than at nearby places. We tried the sweet Muskat house wine too. It was fine, just not really our taste.

The view is beautiful, but that was the only good part for me. Prices were extremely high, portions small, and the service poor. The inside was dirty, and the captain had on a badly worn blouse. Everything felt very low quality. I wouldn't recommend it.

The prices were far too high for us, so we won't be back. The service was slow, though it didn't get frustrating. It's a classic Greek tavern with tasty traditional food, especially the best Greek salad and octopus in the area.
