Hotel Diaporos

The owners and staff were the best part, always kind and focused on helping guests find a solution. It’s a good value family hotel with the facilities you need, including a parking space for every room, which gave us peace of mind. The food was tasty, though there wasn’t much choice, and hygiene standards were good. There’s also a small, pleasant garden where kids have what they need to be happy. A good place for the money.

The stay was terrible and ruined our vacation. They presented themselves as “big boss,” and communication with them was impossible. I don’t understand why this is called a hotel. Calling it a motel would already be generous. There was no real room cleaning. They came in to check, apparently, and left the door open, but didn’t even take the bathroom trash. After three days I had to carry the dirty towels to ask them to change them. The sheets weren’t changed at all during our five days. The breakfast was just eggs and a few almost transparent slices of salami and cheese. At reception we were greeted by a family who smelled terribly of sweat and looked very unkempt. That gave us some idea of what was ahead. I have no idea how this place got authorization to operate. I gave it one star only because the review form required one. In reality, it’s minus ten daisies.

The hotel itself is very nice and has a garden for kids, but the nearest beach is a 300m walk. The staff weren’t very pleasant. Food was very limited, and if you didn’t arrive right when breakfast or dinner started, you could be left with scraps because they didn’t refill the buffet.

Vourvour is beautiful, peaceful, and clean, and the sea is phenomenal. The property, though, is far below the standard of other places nearby. It feels like apartments rather than a hotel, and the furniture is getting old and uncomfortable. I’d avoid it. There are only three people working there, and they’re terribly unprofessional and rude. The woman at reception also handles housekeeping and sometimes works in the restaurant. An older woman works in the kitchen and restaurant, and also cleans rooms and waters the grass when needed. The so-called manager seems to do nothing but try to scam guests. They charge for more expensive rooms, then try to give you something cheaper than what you paid for. In seven nights, the sheets were never changed, and neither the room floors nor bathroom were cleaned once. The towels were old, yellowed, and stank when wet. They were only replaced when asked, as were the sheets. Toilet paper was either not refilled or taken from leftover rolls from other rooms, apparently if they thought you used too much. They never left soap or bath supplies, not on arrival or later. The shower water was cold during the day and only warm in the evening. There was no hairdryer. The restaurant is at the top of the building, with no air conditioning, so we were soaked with sweat at dinner and didn’t want to stay long. It’s reached by a narrow spiral staircase, which is horrible for anyone who’s claustrophobic, especially older people. The buffet was a scam. Breakfast was always the same: scrambled and fried eggs, pizza pita, toast with a piece of tomato and cheese, a croissant, ham and cheese arranged to take up as little space as possible, cucumber and tomato salad, and cereal in tiny bowls so you’d pour as little as possible. The machine coffee was horrible. Dinner was one meat dish, two stews such as puree, rice, peas, or green beans, the same cabbage salad, and a dried cookie for dessert. They watched us and counted our bites. There was no choice, and if fish was served, anyone who didn’t eat it went hungry. The nearby beach looks 100m away by air, but that part isn’t arranged, so in reality you have to walk a long way to the first arranged beach. The prettier beaches need transport.
