Karvouno Villas

Our crew’s message is: stay cool, stay hydrated, stay in Karvouno! We arrived by sailboat, and our host Nikos met us in his dinghy and took us straight to the port, where a mooring was ready for our flotilla of four boats. We had hot showers, a beautiful beach, and wonderful home-cooked food that gave us a taste of the Greek spirit. It’s a comfortable place to stop for one night, a few nights, or even the whole summer. The location was great, but the food fell well below what we had at the other tavernas and restaurants on our Sailing Holidays flotilla. Unfortunately, the restaurant was tied to the flotilla. One person in our group was ill the following day. If you can, give it a miss.

We only stopped at the dock for a night and didn’t stay there. The beach is nice and the surroundings are beautiful, but the beach restaurant was overpriced and disappointing. The gyros were dry and seemed as if they’d been fried in a pan. I imagine there are better spots if you’re looking to spend a few nights.

The mooring spot was great, but we were disappointed by the restaurant. We seek out Greek places with better food and expect to pay more, yet here both the food and wine were very expensive and the meal itself let us down. They brought the wrong wine, and when we pointed it out, staff initially did nothing. Then they kept bringing sweets we hadn’t ordered and didn’t want, as if that would fix things. When we raised the problems again while paying, the staff member was unhelpful and belligerent. Make your own choice.
