Begeti Bay

This was a sad hotel experience for me. The bathrooms are tiny, smell of sewage, and barely have room to hang two towels. There isn’t really a beach, just a huge harbor construction site with cranes. You have to walk 15 min to reach a good sandy beach at Creta star hotel. The pool is very small, more for playing than swimming. Breakfast is the same every day, dinner is okay, and the juices are industrial. All-inclusive cocktails are made with Sprite and syrup. If all you want is to sit by the pool, watch the sunset, and prepare to travel 12 hours for that, maybe this place suits you. Otherwise, no. Any 4-star hotel at Crete would be better.

A quiet, budget hotel that’s lovely if all you want is a pool and some peace. The buffet meals are average, the drinks aren’t branded and taste watered down, and the bar shuts at ten unless you pay to keep drinking. It’s definitely not five star, but not bad either. The private beach is really just a small rocky patch with rough water, and the location is quiet. Rooms are cleaned, with towels and bedding changed, when you ask at reception.

What made the stay enjoyable was the staff. They welcomed us warmly, helped us check in, explained things clearly, and even put together a small snack despite our late arrival. The sunsets from the hotel are really nice, too. The hotel works well if you’re after a budget-friendly place with decent food and are happy to drive five minutes to reach better beaches. The pool is fine, though it gets busy around midday, which seems normal for this kind of place. Food is similar from day to day, with little changes, but it tastes good and most dishes were delicious. The small pebble beach has maybe 10 umbrellas. About 10 meters away, a port for local fishing boats is being built, so there’s excavator and construction noise until around 3 PM. To be fair, that isn’t the hotel’s fault. There’s no luxury here, but the hospitality and genuinely warm atmosphere make up for that. It’s a good choice when you know what you’re booking. The picture was taken from a table in the pool area.

The private beach is really close, just five steps away, so you can enjoy the sea and hear the waves. The staff were lovely, and both the food and room were pretty good. It gets very hot while waiting in the lounge or reception because the air conditioning doesn’t work, which can be irritating. Without that little issue, I’d have given it five stars. Still, it’s genuinely a really good place 💗
