We really enjoyed the peaceful setting, especially the music at sunset. The views are stunning, the food is tasty, the room was a lovely size and cleaned daily, and the staff were very friendly. It’s a great place to watch the sunset. The beach is a five-minute walk away, with a couple of shops and restaurants nearby. We’re vegan and, on 5 out of 6 days, the all-inclusive meals worked well for us without us even asking for vegan-specific food. We liked the location because we had a car. Rethymno, the nicest town on the island in my opinion, is only a 15 min drive, and it was easy to explore other beaches too. We were about equally far from Chania and Heraklion, and Lake Kournas was not too long a drive away. Without a hire car, though, I’d stay closer to Rethymno, since I don’t think there’s enough nearby to keep you happy for a week. The beach is lovely in some places, less so in others. All-inclusive drinks were one type of lager, white, red, and rose wine, a couple of Greek spirits, and soft drinks. Meals were served at set times, with lunch ending at 2.30 and dinner starting at 7, so we got hungry in between. There’s a shop in the lobby with snacks.

The all-inclusive food was enjoyable, and every day we found things we liked. We appreciated getting to try local dishes. Drinks were a smaller selection, with beer, wine, and a couple of spirits, but that suited us fine. The hotel is a little out of the way, so be ready to take taxis or rent a car. Reception can give you bus information, and there’s a stop across the road. Our room was spotless and serviced daily, and the views were gorgeous. Everyone we met was friendly and welcoming. Sofia at reception deserves a special mention: she greeted us so warmly, was funny and kind, and made us feel at home from arrival. Her English was fantastic, and she went above and beyond every time we spoke. Efi from the kitchen staff was another delight. She was polite, helpful, and always smiling. She took time to explain the food and talk us through the options, encouraging us to try local dishes. It made meals feel personal and special. My partner and I had a lovely few nights at Skaleta Beach Hotel, and the staff, especially Sofia and Efi, made the trip memorable. We wouldn’t hesitate to return.

We’ve had a week of total relaxation and are leaving today. The staff were fabulous and always pleasant, the rooms were immaculately clean and well kept, and the views were incredible. The hotel was hard to fault. Just be aware there are lots of steps, so it’s not suitable if you have mobility issues. We found enough choices on the drinks menu, and the food was lovely. If you can’t find something you like, you’re a picky eater. We only walked to the nearby beach, about ten minutes away. It feels like an up-and-coming resort, and if you want more to do, a short bus or taxi ride will take you elsewhere.

There’s a nice sea view, and the food was okay with a variety of dishes, although the same ones came back each day. We stayed in October, and the pool wasn’t heated, so the water was cold. The hotel is quite far from the beach and Rethymno, which is about 20 km away. The main problems were in the room: it was damp and moldy, and the shower had no hot water. There were lots of tiny black ants, too, and bathroom hygiene supplies weren’t replenished regularly.

The room felt like a prison cell from TV. It had no window, wasn't soundproof, and we could hear everything. There were no tea-making facilities, fridge, or safety deposit box. The place is terribly outdated, tatty, and unkept, with no lift and plenty of stairs to carry your luggage, just an accident waiting to happen. The food was very limited, as was the all-inclusive, which really spoiled the holiday I’d been looking forward to. We’ve stayed at some beautiful places in crete with happy, wonderful staff, clean and tidy spaces, and everything well equipped. This one didn’t come up to scratch. Choose carefully: it may look lovely online, but be cautious. Even the water comes out orange when you run the tap, which is something you wouldn’t get in the uk.
