Stegna beach and the local people are lovely, but I had a terrible experience at this place. I was on the beach all day, and around 5pm a young person who seemed mentally ill came up asking for 10 euros for the sunbed. I refused because locals and tourists had told me the holiday season was over and I shouldn’t have to pay for a sunbed on this public beach. I thought it might be a scam. Then his mother, the hotel owner, came over shouting that I had to pay or leave. Her body language made me think she might hit me, so I paid and left. I came back later for coffee, which was terrible. She kept asking where I was from. When I said the UK, she was racist toward me because of my dark hair and name. She doesn’t like people with an ethnic background from the Middle East. It was the first time in my life I’d experienced racism. Please avoid this place with her mentally ill son.

I didn’t stay at the hotel, just rented a beach umbrella and two sunbeds for 10 euros, which seemed reasonable. The owner’s son ruined the experience by talking for hours, making up stories, and leaving everyone around him uncomfortable. It was impossible to relax because he wouldn’t go away, making it awkward for the person he was talking to and everyone nearby. I wouldn’t come back. I’d rather pay 5 euros extra somewhere close by and avoid being talked at with made-up stories.

I’m staying here for a week as I write this, and I’d gladly return next year. The owners are extremely polite and helpful, everything at the hotel is clean and well appointed, and the beach is right across the street with plenty of bars and restaurants nearby. I’ve read the negative reviews, but felt they came from people with issues unrelated to the hotel’s real rating.

Being right on the beach is a real plus, and the rooms are okay. Still, I’d avoid staying here. The owner got extremely aggressive with us because we hadn’t paid the full amount in advance. If you choose to come anyway, you might want to keep the local tourist police number handy: 22410 27423.

There’s plenty of room, the views are lovely, and the whole place has a good feel to it. The owners were super friendly and speak perfect English. It’s right on the beach, and I liked it a lot.
