Villa Rita Apartments

Spyros was kind and welcoming. On our first day he took time to explain places worth seeing across the island, how to get there, and where to eat in town. His restaurant suggestions were great. The hotel is in a lovely, quiet location, a few minutes’ walk from the beach and a delightful seafront restaurant. Tavronitis town is about a 10-minute walk, and there’s a bus to Chania every 20 minutes, so getting around without a car was easy. We stayed 11 nights and had a wonderful time. The hotel was gorgeous, very clean and well equipped, with a large, clean pool. Our bed was comfortable and the air conditioning worked well. We had a lovely balcony with chairs, just right for playing cards in the evening. There’s plenty of parking if you drive, and a very basic kitchen in the rooms.

The beach nearby wasn’t the best for swimming, so we followed Villa Rita’s owner’s suggestion and drove about 40 minutes to Falasarna beach, which we really liked. The beach taverna around the corner was lovely too. There isn’t much to do right nearby, though supermarkets and tavernas are close. You’ll definitely need a car. We paid around 45 per night, which felt fair for the money. The pool is nice and has sunbeds, and the staff are friendly. The air conditioning worked, which was essential in July. The beds are small for two, as they often are here, but we slept well enough.

Spyros is always ready to help and answer questions. You can hire transportation or take the public air-conditioned bus, which leaves every 20 minutes from the lovely village. There are several restaurants in town, a couple by the beach, and small supermarkets. It’s an idyllic, authentic place on a beautiful island, with a big pool, the beach about a five-minute walk away, and no traffic noise at all. We warmly recommend staying here.
