Esperides Hotel

The rooms were spotless, with a balcony, TV, AC, and free Wi-Fi. Breakfast had a nice range of food and drinks, and there’s a beach right outside with sunbeds, plus a cozy poolside sitting area and bar. It’s about a five-minute drive to markets and restaurants. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the barman even helped us with our luggage when we arrived. Bees around the breakfast balcony were the only downside, though that’s understandable. I found the price reasonable for what was included, despite some people calling it expensive. I had a very happy stay, and it seems suited to families, couples, or a quiet solo break. The hotel seems fine for a short visit, but I wouldn’t choose it for a longer holiday, especially at this price. Some staff, including the receptionist and cleaning ladies, were kind and welcoming. The rooms are spacious, with plenty of luggage space, and the sea view is beautiful if you book one. There’s a large parking area and a small private beach, though sunbeds are limited. With a car, the city center is about 10 minutes away. Breakfast had very little variety, and the pool didn’t look very clean. Bees were constantly around while we ate outdoors, which made meals uncomfortable. The man at the pool bar was slow, unfriendly, and unwelcoming. Without a sea view, you face the parking lot, and there isn’t much to explore on foot around the hotel, so a car is really needed. Overall, it was an average stay, not the worst, but not worth the price.

The location is convenient enough, and there’s always a parking space either in front of or behind the building. Across the street is a small beach with a few sunbeds, though most are shaded during the day. The bar was fine, if a bit expensive, at €10 for two espressos and a juice. The pool looked dirty and neglected. I’d describe this more as a bed and breakfast than a hotel. The rooms are generally clean, but don’t expect a thorough cleaning while you’re staying. Service is okay if you ask for something, but staff don’t take initiative or offer help themselves. Breakfast was poor, the dining area was full of wasps, and the staff seemed completely uninterested.

The quiet setting outside Thassos City was one of the biggest pluses for us, and after seven days at Hotel Esperides we were very satisfied. The hotel and rooms are nice quality, clean, air-conditioned, and the beds and towels were fresh. All the staff were friendly and willing to help. We enjoyed the food over our seven nights. It was tasty, made with good quality ingredients, and the portions were just right for us. Dinner choices might be tricky for kids who don’t eat everything, though. Mosquitoes and hornets were a problem, and the staff didn’t do much about them. The pool is a bit old and damaged, and probably needs renovation. I also didn’t like that the hotel did nothing about guests leaving towels on chairs all day to reserve them. Our takeaway breakfast wasn’t ready on the last morning, which disappointed me, but the staff quickly helped us put something together. Snacks and drinks at the hotel bar can only be paid for in cash, so that may limit how much you use it if you don’t carry cash.
