I had a miserable stay at this run-down, neglected place. The conditions were unacceptable, and the host’s photos don’t show what it’s really like. I don’t believe the five-star reviews, they must be from friends or family. The bathroom felt like a health hazard. There was mold on the shower curtain, around the sink and around the bathtub, and the showerhead was broken. I tried not to look too closely. I managed to shower, but it was unpleasant. I can’t understand calling this place child-friendly, and I wouldn’t bring young children here. The air conditioner seemed like it hadn’t worked for 30 years. The mattresses were awful, probably from the same era. I don’t know whether mattress toppers are a thing in Greece, but there weren’t any here. The springs were so stiff my feet went numb just from the pressure. The mattresses looked like they’d been taken from a drug den. My blanket had dirty footprints, though the sheets were clean. I slept badly, and going to bed didn’t feel good. We couldn’t lock our room because the door lock didn’t work. The food was OK. I ate all the meals and didn’t get sick, but the coffee was bad. The staff came across as hostile. When people pointed out that the tea water was cold or the glasses were dirty, they got annoyed and defensive. I’ll never go back.

The sea views and the lovely waterfalls around Mariva are amazing. It’s in one of the best spots on the island, with a beautiful garden full of flowers and trees, a calm atmosphere and really nice guests. I’ve been coming every year for the past eight years, and it feels like home. Dimitris is a wonderful, caring host.

For the price, I can’t really complain. The room was a little old but OK, and breakfast was fine, with something to eat even though it was the same each morning. The bread was amazingly fresh every day. Parking wasn’t a problem, though sometimes the water was a bit too cold. There weren’t any cleaning services during our week, and I wish the room had some basic cleaning tools. They’ll wash and dry a bag of clothes for 5€, which is nice.

Good price, good location, and a nice host. I liked the privacy, the fruit at breakfast was a big plus, and the beach nearby is lovely. They also look after the cats, which is great.

This place is very quiet, with stone alleys connecting the rooms, so it feels like staying in a little village. The location is excellent, close to most of the places people recommend visiting in Samothraki, and there’s plenty of parking. Breakfast is great and service is good. The staff make the beds and change towels every day, but sometimes the cleaners forget the rooms unless you ask. The property really needs renovation. There’s no TV or elevator, and anyone in the family who uses a wheelchair may need to reconsider.
