Astoria Hotel

The room was clean, the food was great, especially breakfast, and the service was great too. It’s a decent spot for a short stay in Thessaloniki, and handy for working or touring downtown. Traffic noise still came through the room, though it was bearable. The bathroom felt very cramped, I could hardly fit in the shower, and water splashed all over. There aren’t rooms for families unless you book a suite, which makes the cost much higher.

After my first night I became ill and had to leave. When I asked about using the second night later, the hotel said that wasn’t possible. That was a very poor level of support. I’d booked a single room for two nights and expected something normal for the money, but got a “match box room” instead. It was worn out and badly in need of renovation. Breakfast wasn’t memorable either, and staff serving food without protective gloves was quite unacceptable. I wouldn’t stay there, it isn’t worth it.

We weren’t hotel guests, just visitors to the city, but had a bad experience there. On the night of 9.9.2025, we were traveling with our one-year-old and two-year-old toddlers, both crying, and politely asked the front desk agent to call our hotel so they could send a cab. He refused because the two hotels had issues with each other. Refusing to help two parents with small children says a lot about the people working there and how the place is run. There was no empathy or decency.

The location is great, and the staff are polite and helpful, but the hotel is poor value for the 170€/night we paid for a “junior suite.” The breakfast could be better, and they need more staff to serve guests faster. The rooms need investment urgently. The facilities are old and disappointing: the two elevators are unbelievably tiny, and our baby stroller barely fit. The bed was hard as wood, old, and noisy, while the living room sofa was also old and small. Sound insulation was so bad we could hear everything from the next room, leaving us with no privacy. The shower was in very poor condition and didn’t work properly. Definitely not recommended for families with kids.
