Davitel Tobacco Hotel

The hotel’s in a great spot, with everything within walking distance. I liked the hotel itself much more than the area around it, which felt a bit run-down and wasn’t very clean. We arrived at 9pm and the friendly, helpful young man at reception welcomed us and looked after us. Our room was spacious and clean, with a very comfortable bed and a tidy bathroom. Breakfast had plenty of tasty options. We were first to eat at 7h00, since we still had to drive on to Belgium. There are a limited number of parking spaces right outside the door. We were lucky to find one free at 9pm and could use it without charge. I’d recommend this hotel if you’re visiting Thessaloniki!

The bathroom was okay, but for what I paid, this didn’t deserve to be called a suite. The room was dusty, cleaning standards seemed low, and the balcony was filthy and neglected. There was just one flimsy plastic chair and no table, so the balcony was unusable. The desk had only one badly placed power outlet, and there was dust everywhere. Breakfast was poor too, with low-quality food, an unappealing presentation, very few quality cereal choices, and no fat-free or zero-fat milk or yoghurt. The room Wi-Fi wouldn’t connect, though it worked in the lobby. Staff couldn’t fix it, so I wasted a lot of data. This felt like a three-star hotel at best, and poor value for money. I was disappointed after booking what they called a suite. The four-star rating isn’t justified.

The room was nice and breakfast was good, though there was a lot of street noise inside.

The staff were friendly, kind, and helpful, and the rooms were clean and a good size. Breakfast had a varied spread of vegetables, fruit, patties, croissants, omelet, and muesli, so there was something for every taste. They even let us leave our car in front of the hotel after checkout. We stayed on the top floor because I’d read that it could be noisy. With the window open, you can hear the growling scooters, but closing it made things okay. We didn’t need heating or air conditioning in the temperatures we had in early November. The hotel is just beyond the paid parking area. You can try parking on Ag Dimitriou street, though free spots are scarce, as you’d expect in Thessaloniki. The hotel has four spaces out front, which were enough in early November. In summer, that might be an issue. I’d read that hotels in Thessaloniki don’t have their own parking lots, and that paid private parking is an option. The White tower is 2.5 km away on foot, which suited us fine. Walking down Ag Dimitriou street takes you to the Agios Dimitrious church, and from there you can turn right toward the sea and Aristotelous Square.
