Hotel Ilios

It’s a compact hotel with a good location, shops, restaurants and bus stops nearby. The seaside is about a 10-minute walk away. My room was clean, though a bit small, and the elevator was tight too, barely enough for two people 🙂. The price is cheap, and the receptionist was friendly and helpful.

We arrived in Thessaloniki in a really difficult situation, with everywhere fully booked. Because of an exhibition, the available hotels had raised their rates to around 250 euros for one night. After asking many places for help, we thought we might have to sleep at the airport. Then, at the last minute, we found this little island of relief. Niko at reception quoted just 53 euros for one night for two people. They were the only ones who hadn’t pushed the price that high. We were shocked in the best way and so thankful. Thank you, Hotel Ilios, for rescuing us. :)

We had a good two-night stay, and the clean room was fine for what I expected from an older building. Our bed and pillows were okay, and the air conditioning worked well. The fridge also worked, though it wasn’t cold enough to keep food for long. We were on the seventh floor, with a balcony overlooking Egnatia Street, and there’s a small lift. The bus stop right across the hotel makes it easy to catch the airport bus. There are lots of places to eat, cafes and convenience stores nearby. I gave it four stars for the great location.

I picked this hotel because it was one of the cheapest options in the centre. The service was really good, and the staff were available and kind. The room wasn’t great, though. The furniture was very old, there was no hair dryer in the bathroom, and the shower space was hard to manage, with water ending up all over the floor. Still, for two nights on my own, it worked out well.
