Hotel Luxembourg

The staff were lovely, and the location is incredible, with everything just a short walk away. But the room was a struggle. It was so hot I could almost imagine the walls sweating, and opening the window meant the city's nightlife sounded like it was right on my pillow. Then a tiny, lively cockroach was doing laps in the bathroom. It seemed to cope with the heat better than we did!

The friendly staff and the location were what drew us to book, along with the appealing room photos online. That's about where the good parts ended. We had booked five nights but left after the first, having killed one cockroach in the bathroom and then found another. They offered us an upgrade, but the receptionist didn't look surprised, so we weren't confident this was a new problem. We did get a refund for at least two nights, which was okay given that our booking was non-refundable. Some angles of the room looked like the photos, while others seemed to have been left out to make it look better, so I'm adding photos of the “3 bed room” to show what people are actually booking. The hotel was far from quiet: we could hear people talking in other rooms and toilets flushing upstairs. Besides the cockroaches, the bathroom sink overflow seemed blocked and smelled like sewage. It wasn't a relaxing stay at all. Breakfast was okay, nothing special. We definitely wouldn't return or recommend it. I hope the hotel does something about the cockroaches, but I'm not very confident, since the guy at reception didn't seem surprised either.

The breakfast was good, and the location worked well. The room wasn't huge, but it fit two suitcases without a problem.

The staff were wonderful, the shower pressure was divine, and there was a mini fridge and safe in the room. The beds and pillows could be improved, though, and our closet space was just an exposed rack in a hollowed-out section of the wall. Slippers cost €3 a pair, which didn't seem reasonable for what they cost to make. The rooms were neither especially small nor large, which makes sense for the hotel's size and location. That location is great: the waterfront is two seconds away, Aristotelous Square is a stone's throw in the other direction, and Ladadika is very close. There's a mini-market across from the entrance that stays open until around midnight and even serves coffee made by a proper barista. There are cafés and restaurants all around, two immediately to the right as you leave and three or four to the left. Breakfast was more than adequate, with options for most tastes. I'd definitely come back and recommend it.
