Metropolitan Hotel

We had a very pleasant two-night stay at Metropolitan Hotel on August 21-22. The front desk man in particular was kind and helpful. It’s pet-friendly, and there’s safe, convenient paid parking about 100m away. Breakfast had plenty of good options.

A bit worn and old, but the price reflects that. It works if all you need is somewhere to sleep and use WiFi. Don’t mix it up with the much more modern, upscale Met Hotel a few kilometers away.

The room design was okay and the service was decent, but I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to friends or family. The bed made so much noise that we changed rooms, and the other one had the same problem. The food was bad; whenever I ate there I wanted to go to the toilet, and I even found a hair in my cereal. We paid too much for what felt like a camping room. The location wasn’t very good, and there was no parking spot. I’d give it a high 2.5/5 stars.

The renovated room was new and the mattresses were okay. Check-in is available 24/7, and the WiFi was excellent, with very fast downloads and uploads even for larger files. There’s a small supermarket right by the hotel, plus some cafes and a kiosk. The promenade is five minutes away on foot. The city center takes under 20 minutes by bus or 30 minutes walking. The hallway could get a little loud when people talked there. Keep in mind the city tax is 10€ per night, which is far too much for me. That makes Thessaloniki a one-time visit for me. There’s no beach in Thessaloniki; you can reach one by bus, but it takes an hour.
