The surprise charges at checkout and the lack of clear communication made this a very unpleasant stay. We were billed €35 per night for parking, though nobody had told us about the fee beforehand. On the first night our car was just on the street outside the hotel, not in a parking space, but we were still charged for both nights. There was also a €5 tourist fee that hadn't been mentioned in advance. The room itself was nothing special, and the bathroom setup was the worst part. The toilet and bathroom were separate, and the bathroom was so tiny it barely felt like a proper one. It was basically a little shower cubicle that stayed wet and drained badly. When I went back to shower later, the floor was still damp, almost like a puddle. We also asked reception to call us a taxi to a store in Thessaloniki. The meter came to €24 on the return, and after we paid with a €50 note, the driver wouldn't give us change. We told the hotel, and they contacted the taxi company, but couldn't give us a clear answer. They just said they'd look into it. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

What made our stay at The Excelsior Hotel so enjoyable was the clean room, central location, and staff who were kind and ready to help. Thessaloniki has so many lovely places to eat, drink, shop, and explore, and I think it's Greece's most beautiful city. It's especially meaningful to us because Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of the Republic of Turkey, was born there. We're always happy to return to the city, and I've found a wonderful hotel I plan to choose again on my next visit. Thank you!

The shower drain had a small problem, but the very friendly, attentive staff fixed it quickly. We spent the weekend in one of the Penthouse Suites, which was a good size and had two lovely bathrooms. The location is hard to beat, right in the middle of town and easy to explore on foot. A great stay, and I'll definitely come back.

We'd already told close friends about this place, and they may be coming in a few weeks. It was our first visit to Thessaloniki, over Christmas in the rain, and the trip turned out even better than we'd hoped. Everything was close by, and the staff were informative and went out of their way to help. Our room was clean and well organized, with enough mirrors and power outlets. We enjoyed both the breakfast and dinners, which were tasty and nicely presented.

The staff really are the hotel's biggest asset. They went out of their way to make us comfortable, especially Artemis and Elissavet, and Artemis moved us from room 19, which had a few defects, to a much nicer room. She made sure everything was up to our expectations. The hotel is in the best spot for staying in central Thessaloniki. Many thanks for making our visit so comfortable.
