I should have checked Google reviews before booking on Agoda. I went by the good ratings there and ended up with the same kind of experience as many others. I tried emailing the property but got no reply. I assumed there was a reception and only started worrying when we arrived. They also weren’t responding in the app, so it took a lot of effort to get their phone number. On the call, they said I had to pay 32€ in tax for four nights before they would send the check-in instructions. I paid through a suspicious WhatsApp link. They said the Greek tax requirement was listed on Agoda, but I couldn’t find any mention of it as an extra charge. I thought the tax should have been included when I booked. I guess I got scammed like so many other renters. I won’t spend time describing the tiny one-room apartment, so I’ll attach pictures. For two people staying four nights, we were given just three towels.
We never got to see inside. After check-in time, we waited three hours outside the building for the codes and the apartment floor details, but nobody replied. We had to charge our phones at a nearby shop so we could book somewhere else. They only got back to us after we had checked in and settled into another place, and then refused our refund request. Don’t bother booking.
I booked through Agoda because the property had a good rating there. I really wish I’d checked Google reviews first. No one sent check-in details, but I assumed there was a front desk and didn’t worry until we reached the building. The property wouldn’t reply in the app, and finding a phone number turned into a whole search. When I asked about the missing instructions, they said the app doesn’t share my contact details with them, so they couldn’t reach me. That’s never happened with my other bookings. On the phone, they told me I needed to pay an 8 euro tax for each night before they’d provide the check-in instructions. I paid 26 euros through a dodgy link they sent. They said the tax was disclosed on Agoda, but I couldn’t find it anywhere on the listing. I thought tax should already have been part of the booking. It felt like a scam. When we finally got into the room, it wasn’t the room type we’d booked. They stopped replying when I asked about it.
What a useless, poor, cage-like hotel. They didn’t even give me a bed. I’m serious, they said they’d provide one tomorrow 😂 After all that, they still refused to refund me. Cheaters! One star is way too much for those cage-like, stinky rooms.
We were charged properly, but when we couldn’t get into the room, they refused to refund us. This was a terrible experience, and I never imagined Booking could have this level of unprofessionalism. The accommodation wasn’t ready at check-in, and while we waited outside the building, they didn’t answer our messages. Replies usually took around two and a half hours. The phone number on Booking didn’t work. Eventually we got the key, but still couldn’t get in because there were no floor or room numbers. The building was awful. It was open and couldn’t be locked, a homeless person lived in front of it, the elevator didn’t work, and neither the building floors nor the apartments were marked. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.
