The room was roomy and the AC worked, and I liked the fireplace even though it was summer and we didn’t use it. The real letdown was the old, uncomfortable bed. The shower had plenty of hot water, but its holder was broken, so I had to hold the head myself. We arrived late, and the staff were lovely. They even reopened the restaurant and served us a good dinner. The whole place is an intriguing little village turned into a complex, with rooms, a restaurant, a small shop, a square for activities, and, I believe, a small museum. There’s also a lovely pool and a beautiful view over heraklion. We only stayed one night because it’s close to the airport. With a few small fixes, especially a new mattress, it could be a wonderful place to stay.

We stopped here on a Viking cruises tour. The views are great, and there’s a pool plus two shops to browse. There’s a restaurant too, though we didn’t have time to eat there. Getting around involves a difficult climb, so it may be hard if you have mobility issues.

Evie was a terrific guide, and the views on the tour were spectacular, with plenty of places to stop for photos. We chose the tour with the cooking class. The food was full of flavor, and the recipes were easy to make again at home. We’d highly recommend the experience.

The website made the property look charming, but our stay didn’t live up to it. The green pool had no umbrellas for shade, and the beds were uncomfortable. Wi-Fi didn’t reach our room, and the bathroom door hit the toilet. It’s also more than a 10-minute drive from the beach. When we arrived, school kids were running around for a project, which wasn’t what we wanted on vacation. We left disappointed.

It felt like a real home away from home. Staying in such an authentic village gave me a lovely glimpse of traditional life on the island, and the staff were incredibly friendly. Cat lovers will be happy here too. There are loads of friendly cats and kittens, and they’ll sit on your lap if you give them a bit of fuss.
