Marzi Boutique Hotel

We arrived to find a small room with two very old wooden beds, one patched after breaking, and a tiny bathroom where you had to sit sideways, with your feet touching the sink. There was no balcony drying rack for beach towels or wet swimsuits. The shower water smelled like a cesspool on the first night and again the next day. By the third day it was even worse, so we had to leave the following day. Two days before we got there, we’d heard the area had a water problem. When we called, the hotel said they had no issue because they had a filter and osmosis. After we explained that we were leaving because the water was polluted, they politely said they’d had this problem for the last three days, supposedly just by chance.

We had a really good time and found the stay great value. The sunbeds were right on the beach, and the staff were fantastic, especially at the bar. Just a heads-up, the photo showing a swimming pool should be removed because there isn’t a pool here. :)

We cancelled and left. The renovated, modern reception seemed fine, but the rooms felt like they belonged in 1950. Once we reached our room on the fourth floor, we found the balcony railing was broken and the air conditioner filters had been left on the balcony chair. Check the photos. On the way up, we also saw staff carrying old chairs from the terrace, and the elevator was the smallest I’ve ever seen.

We booked this as a Christmas overnight stop on our way to Lefkada, trusting glowing reviews and glossy, carefully chosen photos that suggested a warm welcome and comfortable rooms. The actual experience could not have been further from that impression. Don’t stay there.
