There are plenty of places to visit within 20 minutes of the hotel, which sits opposite a square with the biggest Plane tree I’ve ever seen. We stayed two nights at the end of September in this stunning little Greek village. The hotel is a beautiful old-fashioned Greek place. Next door, a small, immaculately clean taverna serves home-cooked meals in a typically warm Greek atmosphere, with wonderfully friendly family members. If it’s on the menu, try the lamb in the oven with lemon sauce, divine! The hotel staff were especially helpful when we realized we’d booked the wrong dates by mistake. They found us a room and handled it all in stride.

I booked in person, then happened to find a lower rate for the same room and date on their own website. When I mentioned it, the replies were vague, and I was told I should have booked online, which is the opposite of what hotels usually advise. The checkout and billing formalities also weren’t straightforward. If you like haggling, unclear dealings and 90s-style service attitudes, this might suit you. Otherwise, look elsewhere. There’s much better in Zagori.

Maria and her parents gave us great hiking advice for the local area, which was invaluable, and they were extremely warm and welcoming. We spent four nights there in April after reading about the hotel in a Guardian Newspaper article. The hotel was spotless and comfortable, and we especially enjoyed the homemade baking at breakfast. We look forward to returning.

The room was clean, with a view of the Zagori Mountains, and the family who run the hotel were super friendly and helpful. With the 750-yr old tree and several signature trails nearby, it feels easy to blend into the natural surroundings. The host can help arrange outdoor activities, including a hiking tour guide or cooking class. You won’t tire of the mountains here, and you’ll love the people too.

Cold beer or wine under a big tree, with a perfect view. I had to change my review. The beer is still cold, but the food needs to be better in Greece. Fries shouldn’t be frozen when you have excellent Greek potatoes, and the portions are small.
