Aigis Suites

We stopped in for drinks twice while we were on the island. Get there about an hour before sunset, choose a drink, and take in the view. Without question, the sunset here is the island's best.

The view was nice, but that alone couldn't make up for a deeply disappointing experience of Greek hospitality. We came with family to a baptism dinner, along with international friends who had travelled from several countries to honor the hosts. The hosts seemed to have to organize and facilitate everything themselves, despite choosing this expensive venue expecting service to match. Getting guests there was a nightmare. The hotel sits on a cliff, reached only by a narrow dirt road full of rocks and potholes, with room for just one car at a time. The hotel had made no provision for parking or traffic management. Everything moved painfully slowly, and dinner wasn't served until 22:30. The bar closed during dinner, apparently because there weren't enough staff. The woman in charge was awfully rude and left a very bad impression, despite the efforts of the few staff members trying to do their jobs. I felt sorry for our hosts, who wanted to give us a warm, high-standard welcome and instead got such poor service. Views, sunsets, and infinity pools can be found around the Mediterranean. The quality of service is what makes the difference, and this was a letdown for Greek hospitality.

Gelly made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived, and her help really stood out. We spent Saturday through Monday at Aigis Suites on our first visit to Kea. The architecture, rooms, and service were all spot on, and it's the kind of hotel you have to experience for yourself. The dirt road up to the hotel felt a little tricky at first, though we got used to it. The views make it worth it.

The dining choices have improved a lot since previous years, and we'll keep coming back whenever we're on the island. It's the liveliest, most vibrant atmosphere we visited, with a sunset that can easily hold its own against Santorini's.
