Hotel Xanthippion

The location is handy, near the central square but away from street noise, and there’s parking at the hotel. The front desk is always staffed. People generally regard it as the second-best hotel in Xanthi, and I found it good value for the money. My room had the basics, including a TV, a small fridge, and pretty good WiFi. The mattress was really comfortable, and the room was very warm in winter with both a heater and an air conditioning unit. The bathroom is on the small side, but manageable, and it has a hair dryer. The closet looks dated but has plenty of space for luggage. Breakfast should leave you satisfied, with everything included. I’d recommend the hotel, you won’t be disappointed.

The rooms had an old, musty smell, and they were outdated, ugly, and full of broken things. The lobby gives a misleading impression, with its expensive-looking minimalist Scandinavian style, but the guest floors are a different story. We asked Rimi at reception to move us to a better room. She wanted us to describe the bad smell so she could spray something like room freshener or open the window, but she refused to give us another room. We won’t be coming back.

The staff are friendly and accommodating, and the hotel is very clean. It’s within walking distance of most points of interest. I’ve stayed here twice now, and when I visit this beautiful town again, it’ll be my first choice. The mattress was very good quality, and the shower had a strong stream.

The lobby and outside area were lovely, and the people were friendly and accommodating. It’s right in the heart of the city. The rooms have been refurbished, but they’re still not great. We visited in winter, and even after the heater had been on for hours, the room never reached a comfortable temperature. The bathroom radiator didn’t work, and switching on the bathroom ventilation made the main room get cold immediately. The common areas outside the lobby were so cold I could see my breath. We stayed during the COVID period, so I can’t really judge breakfast. The options were limited, probably because there weren’t many guests, though a sports team was staying there too, which didn’t make much sense. I’d say it’s okay for a short business stay.
