Golden Sun Hotel

We stayed for a week and really enjoyed it. The staff were welcoming and the surroundings lovely, with the beach and shops close by. We chose all inclusive and the food was good, with lots of options and tasty desserts. The drinks were good too, including cocktails and standard spirits. Even after checkout, they let us keep using the all inclusive food and drinks, gave us a guest room when we wanted a shower, and stored our luggage.

The bar staff were really good, but I found the rest of the staff rude and unwilling to help. Cleaners shouted to one another across balconies early in the morning. We came as a group of 25, and 75% of us had room problems, including noise and, for people on the ground floor, terrible drain smells. Our room was dated and run down, with a noisy fuse box and a very loud fridge. The hotel also needs a proper clean, especially around the pool, which was dirty and overcrowded. Finding a sun lounger meant competing with everyone else. There’s another area where you pay to use a lounger, and that seemed worth it given the pool area's condition. But using it means losing your all inclusive, which might make for an expensive day if you like having a beer. Staff told us we could just turn up to use the spa and loungers, and that bookings weren't possible, yet when we went the next morning they were all reserved for the day. Breakfast ends at 9:30, which is understandable, but they switched the restaurant lights off right at 9:30 while we were still eating. The location is okay, but that's about it. I've stayed in some bad hotels, but never wanted to go home after day one until this place. The worst hotel I've stayed in. Stay somewhere else if you're thinking of booking.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was okay, though quite oily. The pool looks lovely but the water was cold. We expected an indoor pool, but it’s in another building and costs extra. The bar is plain and not large enough if it rains, as it did during our stay. The hotel is near the beaches, but you need a taxi to get to the shops.

George in the restaurant and John at the bar were the only good things about the hotel. They both deserve a medal. We stayed at the golden sun for a week at the start of October and had to fend off wasps while trying to sunbathe. They were swarming around the pool bar too, and nobody was doing anything about it. It was a total disgrace. This was advertised as a 4 star hotel, but no way.
