The staff were patient and kind about my awful Spanish, and they let me check in at 1am after my travels. The front desk is staffed all the time, which was reassuring. My bunk felt private with the sheets that close around it, and the hot showers were nice. Nothing was stolen from my room, and most of Antigua's main sites are an easy walk away. Posada de San Jeronimo is in a great, safe spot and worked really well as a hostel. The road noise comes through the window, and nights can get a little chilly, but I'd still highly recommend staying here.

They present it as a budget hotel, but to me the quality wasn't better than a hostel. The rooms are OK, though most have a shared bathroom used by many guests, and it's tiny, with the toilet in there too. Watch the prices quoted online, since they'll add 22% tourist tax.

I booked an Airbnb just an hour before arriving and paid less than 30 usd a night for a room with a private bathroom, which was very affordable. Guillermo at the front desk was attentive and is also a professional tourist guide. He put together a one day trip to “Lago Atitlan” and explained the price range as well as how to ask for a more time efficient trip. I'm really thankful!!!

After a long drive, we arrived tired at Posada de San Carlos La Calzada. We found out at check in that we couldn't pay by credit card, even though the website said we could after we made the reservation. We scraped together our cash and were still 5Q short. The receptionist was rude and unpleasant to us, and wouldn't check us in without the rest of the money. We asked to use the toilet after the drive before heading to an ATM, a 20 min walk away, but he refused because we weren't hotel guests. That was the last straw. We decided not to stay and left. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

A lovely, quaint place that's a good fit for budget travelers, with very friendly staff. Max, the manager, speaks English very well and was a huge help explaining tours and things to do in Guatemala. I'd definitely recommend it to my guests.
