Banana Palms Hotel

There isn’t much beyond the resort, and as a woman traveling alone I wouldn’t feel safe going out by myself after dark. You have what you need right there, though. The restaurant has a lovely view, and both my dinner and breakfast were delicious. My room had a wonderful lake view, and the place is beautifully designed, with flowers and plants everywhere. The rooms have much more charm than the website suggests. They’re simple and cozy, with all the comforts you need. From the private balcony, you can step straight to a little hammock and relax with a cold beer from the bar while watching the sunset. It was a delightful stay.

The lake views are hard to beat, and the property, rooms, and front desk service were all great. The restaurant was a letdown, though. Service was horrible, the food only okay, and it felt overpriced for what you get.

A lovely place near the Spanish fort, with a private beach, playground, spacious rooms, and a good restaurant.

There’s no phone in the rooms, so you have to go to reception if you need anything. The bathroom could use a towel rack by the shower, more shampoo, and replacement pillows. Mosquitoes come with the rainforest and lake, so bring repellent. The rooms are clean and sleep six, with good AC, comfortable beds, hot water with good pressure, and great Wi-Fi. The restaurant food and service were superb, and the staff were excellent. It’s within walking distance of Castillo de San Felipe, and the water is filtered. I’d book this hotel again.
