Roatan Backpackers' Hostel

Mel clearly takes pride in running this nice Roatan hostel. The private rooms are very reasonably priced, and she'd helpfully booked discounted ferries for us and arranged taxis to and from the ferry port. Fin and snorkel hire is a fair $5. I'd stay here again.

After visiting 17 countries as a backpacker, this is the best hostel vibe I've come across. It's friendly and relaxed, with a social feel that never gets chaotic. People naturally get talking and enjoy themselves here. The hostel is beautiful, with lush gardens and a pool area that's great for relaxing or meeting other travelers. The shared kitchen feels like home, too. It's cleaned several times a day, so it's comfortable to cook and hang out in. The location is excellent. Breakfast and dinner are available at the restaurant on site, there's a grocery store a very short walk away, and the nearby local comedores are inexpensive, so eating well doesn't cost a lot. There's good snorkeling and a couple of dive shops within a 5-10 minute walk. The bus and shared taxi route make getting to West End cheap and easy. The owners and staff were fantastic, welcoming, and full of useful local advice. They gave us an informative orientation that made exploring the island easier. The mattresses are genuinely comfortable, which you appreciate after a long day. The only downside is having to leave and go home. I'd be back in a heartbeat :)

I had a restful, relaxing, and super fun week here, and I'll definitely come back next time I'm in Roatán. Mel will help you organize whatever you need, and the volunteers, especially Andrew, make you feel like family. It's the kind of place where people make you feel at home wherever you're from. It's outside west end, but getting around is easy with affordable options like the bus or a rental car. There's a grocery store nearby, and the dive shop they partner with offers hostel guests discounted rates and pickup and drop-off. Feeling grateful 💛

I had a great three weeks at this hostel and can't wait to return. Mel has put a lot of love into it, and it's a good place to meet people and get a more authentic Roatan experience. Part of each reservation goes to local charities, and the hostel supports community wellbeing. The kitchen facilities are great. Getting around is fairly easy once you know what taxis should charge. West End is only 10 minutes away, and dive shops will often pick you up at the hostel. It may be worth paying extra for a room with AC toward the back, since dogs on the nearby road can be quite loud.
