Bluesun Hotel Soline

We went in early May, just before Croatia’s high season, and the quieter coast suited us. Some days were sunny at 23-24°, others cloudy or rainy, with a few short thunderstorms. Not many places along the coast were open yet, but there also weren’t many tourists around. The hotel looks rustic outside and beautiful inside, with neutral colours and greenery. The reception smelled lovely, perhaps from diffusers, and everything was exceptionally clean. Staff were friendly, chatty, and helpful. Our room, number 218, was just above the entrance, with lovely views of both the mountains and sea. It wasn’t especially quiet. If we left the balcony doors open, we could smell cigarette smoke from people outside the front of the hotel. There wasn’t much that could be done about that. The air conditioning didn’t work, presumably because it’s a central system that only gets switched on in hotter months, so we kept the door open day and night. Thankfully, there were no bugs. I also loved seeing the flock of Barn Swallows make nests around the front of the hotel. Their happy chirping woke us each morning, and they sometimes came to our balcony. The cleaners were fantastic, punctual, thorough, and friendly. Since it was before peak season, our booking was half board, not All Inclusive. Breakfast had a decent selection, but dinner was much better, with fantastic food and plenty of variety each night. Staff kept the dishes topped up and the dining area clean, clearing plates quickly. Ordering drinks was tricky on some evenings, as it seemed only certain staff could take the order. Guests could use the spa for free, which was a great extra. I bought some products from Elizabeth, who was always friendly and welcoming when we visited. The outdoor pool area isn’t very large, and we spent most of our time at the beach. Families with children mostly used the indoor pool, which was quite noisy. Beach loungers cost €10 each, or you can lie on the rocks. Bring water shoes, they’re sold in nearby shops. Brela has lovely coastal walks, small shops, and nice places to eat and drink. A taxi to Makarska cost €25, and it’s a nice little town. Split town was about €50 each way. Uber operates in Split and Dubrovnik, but not in Brela. A beer cost €4.50, the same as freshly squeezed orange juice! We adored our trip to Split and Brela and can’t wait to return.

Sultana made us feel welcome every day and brought extra brightness to an already stunning hotel. She was kind, cheerful, and professional, always smiling and ready to help. She also gave us advice on the best foods and dishes to try, and thanks to her, we were still smiling for the rest of the day after each restaurant visit. We visited in mid-September, and it was calming, perhaps because it wasn’t too busy. The location was handy, with plenty of bars, cafes, and restaurants within walking distance. Our sea-view room cost extra, but the sunset views made it worthwhile. The room was clean and nice, and all the staff were friendly, polite, and helpful. Breakfast and dinner were good for buffet meals. The tables got busy, but we always found a place to sit. I’d definitely stay again.

The whole place had a relaxed, family-friendly feel, with enough to keep people of all ages occupied. Our rooms were cleaned beautifully every day, and Croatia felt clean and pristine in general. The hotel is right on the seafront, with lovely beaches, little shops, and restaurants nearby. And a special mention to Sultana, who looked after us so well at breakfast. We loved her omelette. It set us up for the day. Thank you!
