Apartman Verona

This was my third time in Croatia, and this apartment was easily my number one. Great location, a luxury place, and a super host. We’ll be back.

The booking and refund were a mess after we left. We’d paid ahead for 11 nights, and Booking.com advised us to leave after we contacted them on Wednesday. The landlady didn’t cancel the reservation until the following Monday, then took another two nights to finish canceling it. We were refunded for just two unused nights, even though we hadn’t stayed in the apartment. On the Monday she first said she’d cancel, we’d have been okay with losing the five nights we’d paid for, but that wasn’t how it worked out. We left after one sleepless night. The pool was actually quite nice, but its lights stayed on all night, and with no curtains the room was bright as day. The bed’s headboard had a strong mosquito repellent smell that gave me a headache, so I had to sleep at the foot of the bed. The next morning I found more than twenty repellent strips underneath it. We’d rented the whole apartment partly for its two bathrooms, but one toilet was only separated from the bedroom by a partition that stopped about a meter below the ceiling. There was no privacy when using it. The sink in one bathroom also leaked, leaving your feet wet when washing your hands. The apartment was dusty and coated in a sticky film. There were strange marks inside the kitchen cupboards, dead insects around the place, and a half-eaten piece of melon in the cutlery basket. Since we’d paid in advance and wanted to enjoy our holiday, we spent three hours cleaning as soon as we arrived. I can’t agree with the positive reviews. When we called the landlady to say we were leaving, she suddenly couldn’t speak English, although she’d been fluent the day before. She asked us to send everything over WhatsApp so she could translate it. We did that straight away, but she never answered.

We were greeted so warmly, and our hostess looked after us well. There was a welcome plate of pastries and grapes from her garden waiting in the apartment, which was a lovely surprise. She was also helpful when we ran into a problem, and dinner at her restaurant was delicious. The apartment has a natural feel, lovely furnishings, and parking right outside. The location was very convenient, and there’s a washing machine too. A few areas could use better lighting.

We felt at home from the moment we arrived, thanks to the very friendly landlady. The two-room holiday apartment is furnished with care, and has a pool, veranda, and sun terrace spread over different levels. We were really comfortable there.
