The valley along the Mirna river and Buzet canyon are beautiful, and the house makes a good base for visiting Istra. You can reach all the coastal cities of Istria within 1.5 hours. It’s a traditional stone house with thick walls and small windows, so it stays cool even in midsummer. We had a great time overall. The kitchen has a good electric stove and water cooker, but there’s no dishwasher, dryer, washing machine, microwave, or oven. There’s a nice restaurant nearby, though it only opens on weekends. Service is a bit limited, and more attention to details would help. Waste sorting was confusing too. Plastic is collected just once a month, and there’s no separation for glass or organic waste. We asked the woman when we collected the key how disposal worked, but she didn’t know either.

At night the stars are beautiful, and the surrounding nature is perfect for long walks and finding some peace. The location is lovely, near forests and waterfalls. It’s a very small mountain town, so if you expect everything arranged for you during a holiday, you might want another option. You’ll need to be a confident driver and have decent GPS. The natural setting is stunning, and the place is cozy and well equipped. The host is very kind. Just don’t count on every unit having its own house, terrace, or pool. These are row houses, and the pool is shared with eight other units.

These renovated stone houses make a refreshing, original place to stay. It feels like stepping back into ancient times, and it’s a perfect base for exploring all of Istra. Many lovely little towns and villages, along with welcoming family restaurants, are an easy drive away. Great for nature, history, romance, and good food.
