The sea was clean, and this is a lovely spot for swimming and unwinding if you don’t need much comfort. The apartments are about 10-15 meters from the water, with a little pier for swimming. The family who owns them were kind, friendly, and helpful. We had an apartment “festa” where the owner brought fish and grilled it, which was really nice. There are two floors in the house. The larger apartments are downstairs, while the smaller ones upstairs have sea-view balconies. You can only reach any of them by stairs, and there’s no air conditioning. Since the apartments are close together, noisy neighbors can be a real nuisance in such a quiet place. Smoking neighbors can also make the balcony smell of smoke. Neighbors between the sea and the Conar apartments are usually quiet. The island sits in the landing and departure zone for Split (Trogir) airport. Planes pass Drvenik Veli at around 900 meters above sea level, so there can be quite a lot of noise, though plane fans may find it entertaining. Cars aren’t very useful here, as there are almost no roads and parking on the island isn’t encouraged. Visitors can bring cars, but they mostly take up space; a car ban is planned for coming seasons. It’s better to leave your car on the mainland and walk to the ferry. There’s no drinking water on the island, as in many places in Croatia, so it’s a good idea to buy 7-liter bottles at the shop. The shop has basic goods, usually enough for everyday food or sweets. For wine or olive oil, ask the locals. There’s also a post office and, in the 2019 season, a doctor. Both have limited hours, but you get used to it. Power cuts can affect the whole island, though they aren’t caused by the Conar apartments. They may happen twice in 10 days and last up to 12 hours. When that happens, the ferry’s diesel generators can be very audible in the bay at night. A good place for people who don’t need many comforts and want a relaxing break by clean water.
