Apartment Old Garden Dubrovnik

The garden was lovely, and we found plenty of cash machines nearby since payment was cash only. We had a basic room rather than one with a balcony, and the three plug sockets meant sometimes choosing between charging a phone and running the fridge. It’s a 10-minute uphill walk from the Old Town gates. There’s a supermarket and a very good pastry shop right outside for days you don’t want to go far. The cooked breakfast, served from 8:30-9:30, changed daily, tasted great, and kept us going until dinner, which made it good value. Don’t let the 6pm check-in put you off. They send a video showing how to collect the keys after hours and find your room. The host spoke perfect English and even let some guests stay past checkout when their room wasn’t booked. Five-star service!

Magdalena was extremely pleasant and took a late-night call when we couldn’t find the property, and the price felt fair. We stayed three nights and enjoyed it. The room was a good size with a sea view, though quite old-fashioned, and it could use updating. The garden was lovely, with tables and chairs. The host didn’t talk much, but her breakfasts were really nice. It’s a 15-minute walk to the Old Town, with 70 steps up to the property. Keep in mind Dubrovnik has steps everywhere if mobility is an issue.

The room needs attention soon. It’s outdated and dark, with loose cables hanging from the walls around the TV and other equipment. The lighting is poor, and the lamps have to be unplugged if you need the sockets for anything else. The terrace is pretty, but it wasn’t clean, and dampness from the surrounding plants brought insects in, so we kept it closed. The location is handy, about a 10-minute walk from the Old Town, and we liked having breakfast in the beautiful garden. Breakfast choices were limited but fine; we mainly used the place to sleep, so it wasn’t a big issue. There are around 150 steps to climb, worth considering if you have heavy luggage. We arrived by car and found a free space 10 minutes away. There’s also a paid car park next to the property, €25 a day, but you need to get a ticket from the owner.

Anita and Magdalena were so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fresh and brought to the table, and the rooms were spacious with what we needed for a short break. We could leave our bags before check-in and after checkout, and the check-in details came by phone the morning we arrived, so it was all very easy. It’s a lovely, peaceful, homely little B&B within walking distance of the old city. Yes, there are stairs up to the property, but compared with the rest of the city they’re no big deal. We’d definitely stay again on another trip to Dubrovnik!
