Hostel Amfora

The facilities were spotless, and both the Wi-Fi and air conditioning worked perfectly. Staff were extremely polite and shared lots of useful tips. The hostel is very close to the beach, with plenty of free parking nearby.

A couple of the showers were broken while I was there, so you had to hold the shower head yourself. The rooms all have good air conditioning, and there’s one main room for hanging out. But make a bit of noise after 10pm and the neighbors call the owner straight away. He then gets rude and yells at you for waking him. The hostel’s only a few minutes’ walk from the beach, so that’s where you’ll have to go at night.

The common area was fairly nice, and the place was clean. But it was extremely tiny, with just one bathroom for the whole floor. The rooms didn’t have proper locks either. Our key opened any door, and a key from another room opened ours too.

When I checked out, I asked if I could leave my backpack at reception until later that day, before leaving Fazana. The owner said that was fine, though he wouldn’t be back until 4 or 5pm. I returned at 4:30pm and didn’t see him, which was okay since I wanted to use the common area Wi-Fi to work out where to go next. At 6pm, he told me he’d been waiting since 4 and had come back just for me. I don’t believe that, since he had to return then anyway to open reception for new check-ins. He hadn’t made it clear that he didn’t want me collecting my bag later or using the common area after checkout, and neither expectation is usual for hostels. He acted childish and unprofessional. As I left with my luggage, he followed me down the street, got in my face, swore at me in Croatian, and tried to provoke a physical fight. I stayed calm, but felt extremely uncomfortable. I don’t recommend this hostel to anyone.
