Marco Polo Boutique Hotel

Love this place. The hotel's restaurant serves simple food made with local suppliers, with an amazing fish selection and excellent service. It's been a three-time Michelin star candidate, yet the prices are still much more affordable than restaurants of a lower quality.

I was there in 2001, a long time ago, and still remember a great night. The rooms look just as comfortable as they did then, the food is outstanding, and there's ice-cold Pivo while you look out over the water. If I get to travel again, I'd spend a couple of months exploring Croatia.

We ended up staying four nights after booking only three. Sonia and the Reception team made us feel incredibly welcome, and the whole hotel was clean and well maintained. Thanks to everyone there for making our return to Gradac after 20 years away so brilliant. The waterfront location is peaceful, with lovely views across to the Pelješac Peninsula. There's a small private floating pontoon for sunbathing, plus bike and paddle-board hire and massage treatments. The restaurant was excellent too.

The owner seems like a jolly good fellow, and he's full of information, maybe a bit too much at times 😅 The wine tasting tour had more about palm trees and communism than about what was in the glass, and we barely tasted any wine. It felt expensive for what we got. It's a cozy hotel right by the sea, with a good breakfast and polite staff. Service was a mixed bag, though some of the staff were very nice. Unfortunately, most of the food was pretty bad despite supposedly being Michelin recommended. I hoped the seven-course menu would show some culinary skill, but most dishes were bland or unbalanced, and the plating felt stuck in the 90s. I'd recommend it for a relaxing week in the sun. For outings and food, I'd go somewhere else.
