Villa Torrecorta

The 25-meter pool was a real highlight, and the garden around the villa was beautifully kept, with roses, amaryllis, and plenty of herbs that guests can use while cooking. Max greeted us warmly and showed us around himself, so we felt at home from the start. Inside, the furnishings are high quality, the decor is tasteful, and the personal touches give the place a special feel. We had a wonderful holiday and are very grateful for it. Thank you!

The hosts were the best part for us: lovely, helpful, attentive, and incredibly friendly. The house itself is very well equipped, with individual rooms that each feel like their own experience, comfortable beds, and en-suite bathrooms. It’s wonderfully quiet and feels far from everything, though the nearest village is only a few minutes away. The standout is the 25-meter pool, two lanes wide, which we’d never seen at another holiday home. There’s also a well-equipped outdoor gym. In the living and dining room, a big whirlpool and glass Finnish sauna make it easy to relax. The covered terrace has a large barbecue and a wood-fired pizza oven right beside it. Such a lovely place.

We felt at home almost as soon as we arrived, thanks to the hosts’ real warmth and the care that Max and Marin, the cosmopolitan owners, have put into this haven. Mama Rajna and Boris were lovely too, and Ingrid keeps things running smoothly for guests behind the scenes. Toni, the gardener, looks after the pool and checks in most mornings. He can also bring fresh bread and groceries if you ask. The villa is secluded, about a 15-minute drive along the gravel road from Groznjan. The first part of the drive may feel adventurous, but you do get there. In the grounds, the tower catches your eye first, then the stone house and the pool. The garden is well kept and full of flowers, and we all fell for Mao the cat, the house manager. From the indoor kitchen, it’s easy to step straight outside to the pizza oven and barbecue, then continue a few steps to the pool without climbing stairs. The photos online are accurate, though the place is even more beautiful in person. They’ve thought of the practical details too. There was a grocery starter kit that lasted several days, plenty of towels, and made-up, comfortable beds. The kitchen is fully equipped, so we could leave our usual vacation rental supplies at home, including dish towels and extra utensils. It’s hard to want to leave, but the area is lovely as well. We had a great meal with friends of the hosts, enjoyed local wine, truffles, and Fiorentina steaks, visited beautiful small towns, and went to Mošćenička Draga, our favorite beach. The sea is easy to reach. This kind of luxury does come at a price, but we felt it was justified by what the villa offers. We host a very high-quality vacation home in northern Bavaria and try to treat our guests to a five-star stay, so we’d been searching for somewhere we could relax and enjoy that kind of luxury ourselves.
