Hotel Teranea

The staff are really friendly, the rooms are nice, and the splash pools are great. There’s a nice beach a short walk away. Town is only 1 km from the hotel, but the return walk is up a steep hill. Take their taxi service, it’s much cheaper than the official taxis from town.

We loved staying here after getting engaged. They greeted us with a lovely bottle of Prosecco each. The pool area is quiet, private, and lovely. Our room was cleaned daily with fresh towels, and the beds were super comfy.

For me, no hotel I’ve stayed in throughout my life has matched this one for service and cleanliness. The people at reception were warm and welcoming, and all the staff were excellent. Breakfast was amazing, with a choice of food that felt out of this world. It’s close to downtown and the beach. The rooms are cozy and clean, with a beautiful view and AC. I’ll definitely stay here whenever I come back to Hvar.

The room and service didn’t match the four-star claim or the €275 per night price. My Booking.com reservation was later marked as a no-show even though I stayed there, which stopped me from posting a review on the site. I reported it to Booking.com. Getting there was harder than the listing suggested. The hotel is 1.3 km from the port, but sits high on a hill, making it a 20-minute uphill walk in the sun. The alternative was a transfer for €15 each way, cash only, with no receipt. The hotel advertises sea views, though perhaps only some rooms get a glimpse. Most of the property looks onto concrete in an urban neighborhood, far from the usual Hvar feel that might, being generous, help justify the price. My room was in a separate part of the property. I was shown there and left with little explanation. The Booking.com photos made it look designer, but it had Ikea furniture, including Malm bedside tables and basic wardrobes. There were two single beds, and a staff member suggested pushing them together. At this price, I expected the room to be set up with a double bed, not left for me to arrange. The room also lacked what I’d expect at this rating: the minibar was empty, there was no smoke detector or safety information, and the patio door didn’t work on the first night. The Wi-Fi, advertised throughout the property, was unusable for the first two days, including in my room, then only worked now and then. Breakfast was very limited, more like the bare minimum at a two- or three-star hotel. No one checked how my stay was going. The day before I left, I got a Booking.com message asking for a high rating. I gave the driver, the only person who seemed to care, an honest response along the lines of this review. After that, the booking was suddenly recorded as a no-show. Hvar is unjustifiably expensive, as the receptionist said at check-in, but charging a lot and calling yourself four-star doesn’t replace delivering the expected quality. I wouldn’t stay again. Think twice before booking.
