Dragan´s Den Hostel

A lovely, peaceful, homely hostel. Communication was very good, with WhatsApp set up and lots of information provided. There’s a supermarket around the corner, near the steps by the Church of St Anthony and the 300-year-old cypress trees. It’s a pleasant 30-minute walk into Korcula town. The pool was very tempting! I was too busy sightseeing to use it, though. I think it would be nice to stay more than three nights.

The host was very kind and welcomed us warmly. At the end of our stay, he even gave us a ride to the city. The rooms are comfortable, and sharing the bathroom was no problem. There’s a pleasant outdoor area to relax in, plus a pool, which made our stay even better.

Having stayed in hundreds of hostels across several continents, I’d easily put Dragan’s Den in my top three, and it might even be my number one! The atmosphere is what makes it special: it’s a peaceful, homely place with a great social feel when you want it, thanks to the pool, large garden, and BBQ area, plus quiet spots when you don’t. I stayed in the downstairs dorm, which was comfortable, and I slept really well. The Wi-Fi worked great the whole time, and I had lots of video calls on several platforms. It’s genuinely good for remote work, and digital nomads should be happy here. Two supermarkets are around the corner, the beaches are a short walk away, and the well-equipped, practical kitchen made it easy to cook for myself. A few things for future guests to know, though none affected my stay: • Check-in: It’s a small, independent place, so message Dragan on WhatsApp before you arrive to confirm the time. When I did, communication was smooth and welcoming. • Location: It’s outside the Old Town, which I liked because it’s quieter and feels more local. Allow about 20 minutes to walk, or take a bike or bus, or get a cheap taxi if you’re feeling lazy. I didn’t, because I enjoyed the walk into town and needed the exercise :) • Nature: I didn’t personally have any trouble with mosquitoes during my stay. I’ve seen a hundred times more where I’m from, but if you’re sensitive, bring repellent just in case. It’s the Mediterranean. Above all, the hospitality stands out! Dragan really cares. He shares local tips, helps with logistics, and makes sure people connect. If you appreciate a sense of community, a relaxed atmosphere, strong Wi-Fi, and a place that feels like a friend’s villa rather than a party factory, Dragan’s Den offers outstanding value. I’ll definitely return! Simply the best.

Possibly my worst hostel experience ever. 1) The owner wasn’t there when I arrived at 8 p.m., which wasn’t late, and I didn’t have a number to call on WhatsApp. I had a Croatian number, but I hadn’t bought a phone plan. I never saw the owner. Someone staying at the hostel ended up calling for me. 2) The rooms are disgusting! Be ready to get bitten by a thousand mosquitoes and bugs. The floor is damp all the time, and none of the doors have locks. You could just show up and not pay. 3) It’s about 30 to 40 minutes from the Old Town. 4) The only good thing is that the bathroom is fully equipped and you can bring your belongings in. Stay somewhere else unless bugs and a strange atmosphere don’t bother you.
