The houses are lovely, and the natural surroundings feel untouched. It’s genuinely quiet and peaceful. The pool, though, had several drawbacks: it didn’t feel properly heated, we weren’t allowed to adjust the thermostat, and water gathered in little puddles because there’s no drainage around it. We were also warned not to splash near electrical installations around the pool. It wasn’t well maintained, either. There’s a limit of six people in the pool, which is awkward when a group of more than 20 is expected, and nobody mentioned that before we arrived. The owner was around the whole time. We also hadn’t been told during the week of messages that grilling costs another €30, the tourist tax isn’t included, and there’s a price list for broken glasses. There are quite a few rules.

It’s conveniently placed for hiking trails and natural parks, and we had a 5/5 stay. Villa's Joja consists of three separate villas sharing a pool and sauna. The pool is on the small side, so there’s a timetable for sharing it, but the water was clean and a good temperature. There’s just one sauna, which worked fine since it’s shared only with your own group. The house was spacious and comfortable, with lovely design and beds that were easy to sleep in. The host made us lunch and dinner, both delicious homemade meals at a reasonable price.

We felt very welcome. The housekeepers were kind and helpful, and we could order homemade local food. With the large garden, spacious pool, sauna, table tennis and everything else we needed, it was easy to relax and have fun. The house is tucked away in the middle of Lika, so it’s wonderfully quiet and peaceful. It would suit a short family break, or work as a place to stay while exploring Lika and the nearby Adriatic area.

The host made us two generous, delicious meals, and was welcoming throughout our wonderful weekend. The cosy house is conveniently close to the highway and some great hiking trails. GREAT!

Both landlords spoke neither English nor German, so we had to communicate through WhatsApp and Google Translate. Costs not listed on the homepage came up when we arrived, including an extra charge for air conditioning and a possible €70 per house for final cleaning if they decided it wasn’t clean enough. After we left, they wanted us to pay for furniture and a sauna oven that we hadn’t broken. There were also pool rules not shown online: no more than five people at a time, and no jumping or diving. The landlord’s father lives in the neighbouring house, with a view of the pool and sauna. He also wandered around and relaxed in the villa garden, and came into the pool area without asking first.
