We were just a few minutes' walk from the beach, with a bakery and greengrocer nearby. The owner doesn't speak English, but we managed everything with Google Translator. The place was friendly and nice, with two large rooms, a dining room, and a bathroom with a shower and bidet. We wished the kitchen had a microwave. Both rooms open onto their own little terrace, full of beautiful flowers. ❤

The mattresses seemed to be the only new things here, and they were genuinely good. The furniture works, but it's old, cheap-looking, and gave me the impression it had been passed along by neighbors or relatives. The kitchenette is cramped enough that you can barely stand properly, and we boiled the very old cutlery and pots before using them. The coffee maker and kettle looked like cheap imports. There's no oven or microwave, which is odd when the posted house rules say cooking is prohibited. The bathroom, especially the toilet, is so tiny that cleaning it leaves your back aching. The outside area is neglected, including the parts used by the owners and other guests. The three-star certificate is on the wall, but it's from 1997. By current standards, I'd put it closer to 1.5 stars. The landlady first asked why I didn't speak Croatian. I'm heading to Italy next year, then Spain, so I don't speak every language. If you're running a place for money, German isn't necessary, but English is. Air conditioning costs €10 a day, which would be fair if it ran all day. We only needed it for an hour, so that worked out to about €10 for 2-3 kWh. WiFi kept showing one bar, or none. Given that the apartment brings in nearly €3,000 a month, it felt like a rip-off to me. I'd suggest spending a few euros more elsewhere. I love Croatia, and before the pandemic, its prices were a big reason I went. The price rises in shops and restaurants are outrageous, whatever the reasons behind them. I was looking forward to good ćevapčići as in past years, but we kept getting frozen food at outrageous prices. In 2017, four of us had a good meal for €55 including tip. In 2023, the same cost €95. In 2024, after trying five times in hope of a good meal, two of us paid €60 for frozen food, extra ayvar, and two Cokes. Next holiday, I'll go to Spain. It won't be cheaper, but at least there are sandy beaches.
