Bara Bay

The pool was awesome, and our room was clean. What really stood out was the food: breakfast blew me away, and dinner had lots of tasty choices served buffet-style. The staff were super friendly and seemed to put care into both meals. I'd definitely come back soon.

We left right away and found somewhere else to stay because we no longer felt safe there, especially with our child. The owner yelled aggressively at us over a simple question about possibly checking out one day early, and my wife ended up in tears. We were met with anger instead of a normal answer. This went beyond poor service. We felt completely unwelcome, and the way we were treated was unacceptable for a family traveling with children. I strongly advise people to avoid this place. There are better nearby options where guests are treated with basic respect. Avoid at all costs.

Breakfast was good, and the location wasn't bad. Pretty much everything else made me glad to leave after two nights. The hotel looked modern outside, so my first impression was positive, but for 120+ euros a night this was terrible value. I felt robbed. There was nowhere to park. The space in front fits at most two cars and was already taken. My room was dirty when I arrived, with a shower mat left by the previous guest, and during the stay they only changed the towels, not cleaned the room. The bathroom light triggered a horrible tractor-like noise. We could shower in the dark or put up with it. I told the owner, who said he'd call someone, but it was never fixed. It felt like business mattered more than guests. The air conditioning was locked at a minimum of 22 degrees, and the lobby was colder than the room, so something was clearly off. There was no soap or shampoo, just a bad hand soap like refilled crushed jelly. The curtain and its rail fell down when we tried to open them in the morning. The rail had been poorly glued to a crumbly ceiling. We raised these problems, but nothing was really done and nothing was offered for the inconvenience. Avoid!

After a full day driving from Slovenia, we were exhausted and stayed the night, even though we'd booked two. We left promptly in the morning. The island is beautiful but very remote, and Bara Bay itself seemed fine. Still, there are so many lovely places with good food for much less, so I wouldn't spend the time or money here. The owner had apparently overbooked us "accidentally" and took us to another of his properties. From other reviews, this seems to happen often. The place we were sent to was atrocious. You might end up at Stara Smokva in Metajna. Our room smelled of mildew and sewage, the doors were damaged, and we got one double bed despite reserving two queen beds. Absolutely awful, would not recommend.
