San Servolo Wellness Camping

My wife and I came for our 10-year anniversary and had such a relaxing weekend. The surroundings were peaceful, and the bedrooms were lovely, with great beds. Everyone working there deserves praise, from reception and the kitchen to the restaurants and massage crew. Breakfast was amazing, with everything fresh from 7-10AM. We also enjoyed the two saunas, pools, and smaller gym.

The location is really nice, with pleasant rooms and a peaceful setting. But the staff need to meet the same high standards as the facilities and prices. On Saturday at 17:30, we arrived at the restaurant without a reservation. Around five tables were occupied and the rest were empty. We were told several times that we should have booked and that coming this way wasn’t how things were done. We were eventually seated, but it didn’t feel welcoming. We left at 20:00, with a few tables still free. At checkout, I heard a receptionist speaking very badly about a guest and singling out a particular nationality. I belong to “that nation” and understood everything, which left a very unpleasant impression. I hope the location, facilities, and staff can be brought up to the same standard in future 😊

The receptionist staff did try to find us somewhere else to stay, but everything nearby was booked. We managed to arrange an early arrival at our next campsite, two days ahead of schedule. When we asked to check out early and settle the issue, we were told no refund or change was possible because we had already checked in. We arrived at San Servolo today with our children, aged 7 and 4, excited to return after two previous visits we’d really enjoyed. Instead, we were told that children are no longer allowed in the main pools this year and can only use the kiddie pool, which is extremely shallow and not suitable for actual swimming. That leaves parents stuck there too, without a proper lounge area or bar service, and without the amenities that make a resort stay relaxing. Separating the family or leaving children unsupervised isn’t an option on a family holiday. If this rule had been made clear, we would have booked somewhere else. It wasn’t mentioned on the website when we booked or in the confirmation email. We understand wanting to keep the main pool peaceful, but if families can’t use essential parts of the resort and the staff and restaurant also seem unwelcoming toward them, the place should perhaps be advertised clearly as adults-only. Speaking with management was especially frustrating. The manager briefly appeared when we asked, said “this is just the way it is,” and promised to come back with a solution. He never did. His manner came across as arrogant and dismissive, particularly toward women, with no empathy or apparent interest in helping. It felt openly disrespectful and unprofessional. Other things made us feel unsafe or unwelcome: the groundskeeper drives very fast across the campsite, dogs that bark and pee are allowed at the pool, and smoking is widespread, yet children are the ones restricted. For a couple who likes smoking, has a dog that pees everywhere, and prefers not to be around kids, this might be ideal. For families, though, this was extremely disappointing and frustrating, and we wouldn’t recommend it. Addition: After I posted this honest review, the resort emailed asking me to change or remove it and warning that “further measures” would follow if I didn’t. That raises serious concerns. Are they threatening guests who share negative experiences to silence criticism instead of addressing the problems?

We stayed here with our camper and had a great time at this small resort. There are pitches for campers as well as rooms and mobile homes. The whole area was clean and quiet, and the facilities were modern and clean. We could use the pools, saunas, and gym, and the pizzeria above the heated pool was great, with super nice staff. The resort is surrounded by hills that are good for cycling and is near some great wineries and the little town of Buje. We’ll definitely be back.
